Food price inflation rates
Below is a table showing summer 2022 and summer 2024 food prices from the USA, and per-item inflation rates, followed by an average rate.
The column Summer 2022 Price
is what I actually paid,
based on my food delivery receipts from one particular supermarket,
from June 1st to August 1st. I recently found that I retained five PDFs that list
everything I bought and the prices. The prices of the items that I bought were stable during that period.
The PDFs had clickable food names, so it was trivial to pull up the current
(summer 2024) prices for each of the items at the same store, which you see in the Summer 2024 Price
column.
I've separated out non-food items like toothpaste below this table and I don't include them in the average food price inflation number.
